LGBTQ+ Organizations with Helpful Resources
The Trevor Project offers resources for students, families, educators, and allies. They have counselors available 24 hours via call, text, and online chat (free access for everyone). This service is targeted specifically for LGBTQ+ individuals. They also publish a yearly national survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health.
GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.
Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQ+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting them in their schools and communities.
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network believes that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 education. They are a national network of educators, students, and local GLSEN Chapters working to make this right a reality.
The PFLAG (Parents, Families& Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Chapter Network--with over 400 chapters across the country--provides confidential peer support, education, and advocacy to LGBTQ+ people, their parents and families, and allies. PFLAG chapters are in communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. With 200,000+ members and supporters crossing multiple generations of families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas, PFLAG has been saving lives, strengthening families, and changing hearts, minds and laws since 1972.
