Class Set Up
Students will attend daily physical education throughout the school year. Evans staff will introduce a variety of individual as well as team sports and activities such as archery, volleyball, badminton, and basketball. We utilize the Sport model where students are divided into teams and each student has a different job. (Coach, trainer, media specialist, journalist, official, etc.) We will also utilize the Health Club model where students are given 3 to 4 choices to participate in over a three-week span. Some examples of those units are gymnastics, yoga, dance, speedball, cricket, and yard games.
Students will have fitness every other day. During this time we will focus on the Five Components of Fitness as well as Physical Literacy. Students will use heart rate monitors to create a fitness center image as well as give students real-time feedback. This allows for bias-free assessment as well as showing students that they have control over their health. Students will fitness test using the Fitnessgram Test 4 times throughout the year. This will allow students to see their progress over time.
Students will attend one rotation of Health at each grade level. Each rotation is approximately 6 weeks which meets the 18-week state guidelines.
