Space
Space is an Element of Art. Any picture plane (the whole picture, in this case the rectangular space it occupies) can be divided up into 3 parts:
Foreground, Middle Ground, and Background.

Generally, the background area is considered the upper 1/3 of the picture plane.
The middle ground area is considered the middle 1/3 of the picture plane.
The foreground area is considered the lower 1/3 of the picture plane.
