Our Goal
Our Goal
Let's all Light Up the Night!
The group will work to design and develop sustainable lighting solutions, such as solar-powered lamps, which will be sold within our UNIS community. The funds raised from these sales will be used to purchase materials needed to build and install solar lamp posts in rural areas like Mai Chau, where access to reliable electricity and street lighting is limited or nonexistent. In addition to fundraising, the group will also focus on raising awareness about energy inequality and the importance of renewable energy in underserved regions. By combining hands-on design, fundraising efforts, and community outreach, the group aims to empower rural communities, improve nighttime safety, and support education and daily life after dark. Through these efforts, we hope to make a long-term impact and promote sustainable development across Vietnam.
Our organization is deeply committed to sustainability and addressing issues related to waste management and pollution. As part of our mission, we are designing eco-friendly lighting systems using recycled plastic and reclaimed materials, such as wood, to reduce environmental impact. By repurposing plastic waste and avoiding the use of harmful new materials—like newly manufactured plastics—we actively promote a circular economy and help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Not only does this approach support environmental protection, but it is also cost-effective, allowing us to allocate more resources toward expanding our impact. These sustainable light sources will be installed in rural communities across Vietnam, where access to safe and reliable lighting is limited. Through this initiative, we aim to combine innovation, environmental responsibility, and social impact to light up communities in need—while protecting the planet we share.
Light up the Night is a Service Learning Group committed to bringing sustainable lighting solutions to rural communities in Vietnam, with a focus on areas like Mai Chau that lack access to reliable street lighting. Our mission is to design and build eco-friendly solar lamp posts to improve nighttime safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of life in these underserved regions. To fund our efforts, we raise money through school events and have also received generous sponsorship from Six Senses. The funds we collect are used in two key ways: first, to purchase materials for the handcrafted lighting products we sell—such as birdcage lamps and DIY paper lamps—and second, to buy materials needed for constructing and installing solar lamp posts in rural areas. This year, we are using $2,000 of our funds specifically to support the production of these items and to cover the costs of building and installing solar lamp posts in Mai Chau. Additionally, we are exploring a partnership with Liter of Light, an organization known for providing low-cost, solar-powered lighting made from recycled materials, to help expand our reach and impact. By combining creative product development, fundraising, sponsorship, and collaboration, we aim to promote sustainable energy, reduce waste, and light up the dark corners of Vietnam—one community at a time.
