Tiziana D'Alfonso is Associate Professor at Sapienza University of Rome, where she teaches Industrial Organization, Economics of Technology and Management, and Air Transport Economics. She obtained her PhD in Economics in 2012 from the University of Bergamo in collaboration with the University of British Columbia.
Her research features publications in journals such as Transportation Research Part A, B, E. She has been Visiting Professor at Cornell University (2023), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2018), University of Manitoba (2016), and Visiting Scholar at University of British Columbia (2013, 2014).
She serves as Associate Fellow at the Institute of Transport Studies at the University of Manitoba since 2015 and Member of the Scientific Committee and Treasurer at ITEA (International Transport Economics Association) since 2018. She has led and participated in numerous research projects funded by institutions such as the European Union, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Education, ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority), ANAV (Italian Association of Traveling Carriers), and various regional mobility agencies.
Currently, she is a key contributor to the Centro Nazionale di Ricerca per la Mobilità Sostenibile at Sapienza University, part of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, addressing sustainable mobility and innovative transport policies.
Tiziana D'Alfonso's current activities and interests include:
Competition, regulation, investment incentives, and industrial policy in network industries, with a focus on air transport, rail transport, local public transport and utilities
Game-theoretic models to assess the welfare effects of access conditions to enduring economic bottlenecks, depending on the vertical industry structure, with a focus on telecommunications and transportation
Allocation and pricing of scarce network resources
Sharing economy and peer-to-peer platforms
Standard cost assessment of public transport
Efficiency and effectiveness analysis regarding local public transport
