• Role models, gender and second generations (role: co-PI): a project aimed at investigating the effect of female and foreign-born university teachers in the STEM as role models for female students and second-generation migrants by using Sapienza student-teacher datasets for the most recent years (co-PI: Joanna A. Kopinska, Sapienza University)

• The effect of the China entrance in WTO and the end of the Multifiber Arrangement in Italy: a firm level analysis: The restructuring effect of the increased competition in the Textile and Clothing sector in Italy during the period 1995-2010

• Vaccine Diplomacy: a study on the political and economic factors as explanatory variables of the COVID-19 vaccine deals within the framework of the gravity model of  international trade.

Past research projects

• Labeled remittances (role: PI): a project aimed at designing a labelling system for money transfers to the origin household; project on overseas Filipino workers in Dubai (project financed by Global Innovation Fund, 2017-20; main PI: Dean Yang, University of Michigan)

• The pro-trade effect of migration: the case of Argentina 1870-1913: an application of the gravity model on international trade augmented with migration for the Argentine economy with a unique dataset for immigrants from many European countries; an attempt to obtain gains from migration due to increased product variety.

• Encouraging remittances for education (role: PI): a project aimed at designing a financial product for migrants to channel directly their remittances to the schools attended by their beneficiaries in exchange of attendance and grade sheets; pilot project on overseas Filipino workers in Rome (project financed by USAID, 2012-14; main PI: Dean Yang, University of Michigan; co-PIs: David McKinsey, World Bank, and Erwin Tiongson, World Bank)

• Localization of immigrants in Italy: an empirical study aimed at uncovering the relative importance of network effects and local characteristics for the localization of migrants in Italy.

• Early Warning Systems for Currency Crises and the Great Recession: empirical study to detect whether there has been a change in the relationship between fundamentals and exchange rates during the Great Recession (2008-2010) by using the anticipatory power of different early warning systems.

• Skill composition of international migration flows and impact on the production structure: a study project on the interaction between individual skills and international labor mobility, by stressing the impact on the production structure of the destination country via the effects on the supply of different tasks.
