Dr. Giuseppe Giannini is Professor of General Pathology (MEDS-02A) at the School of Medicine, University La Sapienza, Rome (Faculty member since 1998).
He leads the Cancer Molecular Genetics Unit at the Dept of Molecular Medicine, University La Sapienza and the lab of Advanced Molecular Diagnostics in Oncology at Policlinico Umberto I
Giuseppe Giannini earned the MD degree from the School of Medicine at University La Sapienza, in 1987, the Specialization Degree in Allergy at University La Sapienza in 1990 and the Specialization Degree in Oncology at University of L’Aquila, in 1997.
He completed his training at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, Germany (1990-1993) and at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD, USA (1995-1996).
Prof. G. Giannini has a long-standing experience in molecular oncology. He leads basic and translational research projects related to childhood and adult cancer and a diagnostic lab dedicated to the routine and research-oriented molecular determinations for hereditary cancer syndromes and for prognostic/predictive purposes in sporadic cancer patients. He is involved in multiple national and international collaborations and research groups.
His research interests include:
•Identification of new vulnerabilities of MYCN-driven tumors
•Targeting the Replication Stress and the DNA damage responses in cancer
•Identification of new vulnerabilities of HedgeHog-driven tumors
•Uncanonical roles of DDR-proteins in ciliogenesis and cytoskeleton alteration.
•Targeting epigenetic alterations in Neuroblastoma and colorectal cancer
•Dissecting the role of SETD8/p53 axis in colorectal cancer tumorigenesis and progression
•Genetic testing for cancer predisposition
•Definition of the prognostic/predictive value of multigene panel sequencing
•Liquid biopsy
