How to arrive to Palermo

Arriving by plane

The Palermo airport (Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino) is the second biggest airport of Southern Italy. There are several direct flights from different European cities.

How to reach the city centre

At the airport you will find buses and trains to the city centre. Since both services work well, you can take the transport that stops closer to your hotel/accommodation.

• By bus: there is a direct bus connection from the airport to the central station of Palermo, which makes several stops in the centre. The bus leaves every 30 minutes, and the ticket can be bought at the airport or on board of the bus. For information and timetables: https://www.prestiaecomande.it/

• By train: the airport station is easy to reach, because it is located under the terminal. There are several stations in the city and the trains leave every 30 minutes, on average (there are less trains on Sunday). The ticket can be bought on the app, on the website or at the ticket vending machines. For information and timetables: https://www.trenitalia.com/

• By taxi: taking a taxi from the airport to the centre is quite expensive (it can cost around 50 euros).

• Taxi-sharing: this is a new type of public transport service that enables people to travel by taxi at the price of 7 EUR. It connects the airport to the Central station.

How to reach the conference venue from the city centre

The conference venue is located in Viale delle Scienze, Building 12. You can reach it on foot, by bus or by train.

• Walking: to reach the Building 12, it is a 30 minutes walk from the central square "Quattro canti". Be aware that you will have to walk uphill: the Building 12 is located on the upper part of the university complex.

• Bus:

  • From the central station: bus lines 109, 234

  • From Politeama: bus lines 104, 108

  • From the city centre: reach the central station or the Politeama (walking, or taking the bus line 101), and from there take another bus, or the local train.

  • In all cases, the university bus stop is "Basile - Facoltà di Lettere"

  • NB: note that buses are not very frequent in Palermo, and the timetables might not be precise.

• Local train: Take the train at the central station, or at stations Vespri, Lolli or Notarbartolo. Trains are usually reliable, and it is a short ride. Trains leave every 30 minutes. Get off the train at the station "Palazzo Reale - Orleans". From there, it is a 15 minutes walk (uphill).

• For those who want to avoid the uphill walk to Building 12, there is a free shuttle that leaves from the entrance of the campus.
