Independent Practice at Home
Every family has a different philosophy on "homework". This year, homework will be minimal. Over the course of the year, two Succeed Eureka Math Homework workbooks will be sent home with your child. If no math homework is assigned for the day, families who are interested in providing these homework pages for their child can then assign, review, and check their own work. This will not be turned in to the teacher.
Sometimes your child may need to complete unfinished work at home. On rare occasions, your child may be encouraged to work on projects at home.
On a daily basis, your child will be encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes.
Reading logs will not be used by Ms. Growitz, but if you would like your child to keep a log at home, here is an example which can be printed or used digitally.
If you would like to challenge your child further, I encourage you to explore the following:
Encourage reading in any way you can. Reading stimulates the imagination, nourishes emotional growth, builds verbal skills, and influences analyzing and thinking. Read with your child, have your child read to you, or have your child read independently. Here is a document with wonderful online reading resources.
Make math a part of their everyday life. This can be done in a variety of ways at your home , by working with tangible objects to count, sort, estimate, measure, look for patterns and so much more. Have them help you cook in the kitchen - measure ingredients for dinner, count the number of items in the dish. Ask questions!
Support your child in their developmental milestones. Link to CDC's website for middle childhood (6-8 years of age).
Encourage responsibility and independence. Whenever possible, let your child do things on their own and for others. This will help their independent learning both at home and school.
