Hello!

First of all, let me start by saying that I am excited to be your teacher this year, and I will do my best to give you the most out of this year—Your LAST year at Dartmouth! We are in this together.

Now, I'll tell you a little about myself...

I've been teaching at DMS for nine years. I started out teaching in 6th grade as a Sea Turtle, then a Panda. I moved up to 7th grade as a Dragon teacher, and now this is my fifth year teaching 8th-grade history.

I've taught language arts, history, and electives, but I think history is the BEST! History makes us who we are today and it shapes what we will become in the future. What I find most interesting about history is that it CHANGES. How can that be? You'll be able to answer that by the end of this year.

My husband and I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains with our two sons, William and Benjamin. We are celebrating William's third birthday in September. Ben was born in February. You may remember me as the very pregnant lady walking around DMS last year!

I grew up in Cupertino with my parents and three sisters. My parents divorced when I was in middle school, but most of us still live in the Bay Area and see each other often. We are very close.

My favorite place in the world is Paris. I studied abroad there during college and I didn't want to leave! One of my favorite things to do (besides eating pastries and drinking coffee) was visit historical spots around the city and read about them in my history book. It kept me busy.

This year, we will study early American/United States history, from about 1600 to 1900. When I was 11 years old, my family took a long vacation to the east coast, and I visited some of the places that we will be studying this year. My dad brought a big, bulky digital camera with us (very high-tech in 1997), so I have saved some pictures and will DEFINITELY show them to you.

Since I plan to embarrass myself with childhood photos this year, you should know a little about my humor. I like puns and I like when people laugh at them even if they don't think it's very funny.

Honestly, I'm proud of you for reading this far and getting all the way down here! Now you know more about me, and I hope to get to know you this year too! I look forward to meeting you in person one of these days.

Let's have a great year and make some memories. —Ms. Standridge
