Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is our general ensemble, open to all students who play a string instrument.  This course is designed for those students who are not ready for the advanced classes, but are past the beginning stage. Our focus will be to improve basic skills of various string techniques and note reading through technical exercises and varying styles of repertoire. Winter and Spring performances required. 

Select Strings

Select Strings is our advanced orchestra. This is an auditioned ensemble. Members of this orchestra are able to perform a NYSSMA level 5 or equivalent solo on their instrument. Our focus is to learn more sophisticated string techniques and be able to perform challenging repertoire. Additional performances aside from the Winter and Spring Concert performances are required. Every year, Select Strings participates in an annual residency concert with the Orchestra Long Island through the Arts in Education program, sponsored by Nassau BOCES. Past performances include the Art Supervisors Association (ASA) All County Art Exhibition, African-American Read-In at LIU Post, Greater Hempstead Community Youth Support Music Festival and the Arts Panorama, hosted by the Theta Iota Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. 

Chamber Ensemble

Newly formed in 2023, this ensemble performs smaller chamber works such as string quartets. Our chamber ensemble has performed at the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) 2023 and 2024 Chamber Music Festival and other school events. Acceptance to this ensemble is dependent on skill level and attendance. Rehearsals are scheduled based on ensemble member availability.
