Hello! Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit our website. I know grasping the concept of playing video games in school is difficult and you have many questions but I will try to give you an insight into what we are doing at the high school.

Esports is a form of sport competition using video games. Esports often take the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams for prizes. Our goal is to bring this into high school.

The eSports and Gaming Club is a brand new club here at Uniondale. This is our second year and have many goals in mind for this year. Our goals include working collaboratively in a safe competitive gaming environment at school remotely, and virtually, learning skills that serve as building blocks for careers in computer science and programming, mathematics, and sciences, competing in weekly state matches for scholarships, growing student's STEM interests, developing valuable life skills, using educational technology to collaborate within a team of peers, develop social skills, and create positive relationships, and serving as a way to erase stereotypes and bring students of varying backgrounds together.

Esports is so popular now that many high schools and colleges are competing nationally. Long Island has many high schools with active esports teams including Bay Shore, Sachem North, Syosset, Commack, Lawrence Woodmere, and many more looking to get started. Many colleges are actively scouting and recruiting high school esports players with full ride scholarships. We have had Molloy College and Long Island University come visit our esports team. We also had an out of state school, Belmont Abby interested in our program. Esports is so popular, even Telemundo Deportes and ESPN are broadcasting it on television. Especially now, Esports has see an increase of popularity because of the pandemic and social distancing guidelines. It is amazing how this industry has grown in the last couple of years.

But it is more than just playing games. Esports has the potential to lead to many new job opportunities. Some of them may include Streaming, Shoutcasting/Announcing/Commentating, Marketing/Outreach, Graphics/Design, Website Development, Videography, Photography, Event Organization, Governance, Social Media Influencer, Competitor, Coding, and Software/Hardware Development. The possibilities are endless with Esports.
