Mission: To legitimize high school eSports play, bringing the act of gaming from an at-home activity to one where students are on-campus, surrounded by their teammates.
Students will:
Work collaboratively in a safe competitive gaming environment.
Learn skills that serve as building blocks for careers in computer science and programming, mathematics and sciences.
Compete in weekly state matches.
Compete in a national high school league partnered with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
Grow their STEM interests.
Develop valuable life skills.
Use educational technology to collaborate within a team of peers, develop social skills, and create positive relationships.
Serve as a way to erase stereotypes and bring students of varying backgrounds together.
Benefits of eSports
Although this organization will focus on eSports and gaming, students will also learn about, what is required to be on a team, including:
Similar skills teams need to succeed in traditional sports are required in eSports. Teams need to work together and collaborate as a unit, think strategically, and put forth strong individual effort in order to win.
Research suggests students who participate in structured eSport activities have positive educational outcomes, such as increased interest in STEM, higher GPA, and the formation of stronger bonds as a team.
Adopting eSports would show our commitment to being a progressive-minded institution that is constantly exploring new trends.
There is no limit to how many teams can form at the varsity level, giving all participants the opportunity to compete within the league.
An all-inclusive program: all students can equally participate and demonstrate their attitudes and abilities.
Players feel the exhilaration of a crowd as fans attend via live stream or locally at many league matches.
eSports may involve students who haven’t been involved in a sport or activity in the past.
The costs to implement eSports are minimal compared to starting a traditional sport, which can be extensive with equipment and facilities.
Since there are more high school gamers than athletes, it's about time we foster this in an educational setting.
