K-9 Edy
The Union County Sheriff's Office Canine Unit was established in 1998 and it is funded solely on donations; it has run uninterrupted since that time.
For 27 years, Canine Officers, Iro, Heidi, Justice, Rosie, King, Charlie, Loca and current Officer Edy have all faithfully serviced Union County and its surrounding Counties.
Specializing in tracking, narcotic detection, explosive detection, inmate transport security, and fugitive apprehension canine units have worked thousands of deployments. As a result, these activities, Sheriff's Office Canine Units have created invaluable working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across the region.
Our Canine Officers have become one of the most effective drug prevention programs in our community. They combat the illegal narcotics trade within our community, searching schools, homes, vehicles, prisons, and businesses. We have found they are a great educational tool for our youths, putting on demonstrations that bring awareness of the dangerous consequences of using and dealing illegal substances. Canine Units have presented programs to schools, civic clubs, scouting troops and at many other community events such as fairs and safety programs.
