S4-Soil and Seeds, Sprouts to Success Urban Ag. Program
Our Soil and Seeds, Sprouts to Success Urban Ag. program integrates urban farming and entrepreneurship to provide experiential learning that leads to health, wellness, and leadership. Our Urban Ag process began at the USDA land grant located at Blackland Research Center. Then expanded into the homes of our families with the micro-green process and finally developed the 7-acre Un-Included Club Urban Farm located at 1000 S. Knob St. Temple, TX 76501. Our other Urban Ag. project includes the Mainstreet community garden located on Mainstreet in Temple, TX. We sell the microgreens that we grow at Treno's Pizzeria and Taproom, and Cha Community, both located in downtown Temple. We have also published a cookbook on the microgreen growing process.
Check out the YouTube video that shows the very first interview of our youth leaders. This was their first experience joining forces with Mother Earth News Fair in Belton, TX at the Bell County Expo Center.
Also, check out the video that shows the Pioneers of the Cultivate Academy learning how to plant the microgreens.
Through a series of cooking classes, the Un-Included Club members tested and collected recipes to create a cookbook.
2T2L2:To Teach is To Learn Twice Leadership program
To teach is to learn twice has been developed to train youth in leadership principles such as the first rule of leadership being, "listen and follow directions." The youth are also taught brain development and how to disengage the stress response. The youth leaders are able to interact and learn to be fully prepared for their assignment or project.
"We have a village model, we train our high schoolers to be the engine for our other two programs."
-Doree Collins-Executive Director
