Doree Collins is a certified educator and has been a big influence for the Temple and Bell County community for more than 20 years. She is a wife, mother of 4, and lead singer of their family band, The Collins Crew. Her experience as a teacher and administrator paved the way for her to create her own consulting firm, Doree Create & Inspire Consulting LLC. Her business allows her to do what she is good at and passionate about, which is revitalizing our community and providing good experiences for our youth and their families. She has recently started Cultivate Academy where she has taken many of the experiences of Un-Included Club and integrate them into a full day school day.
Doree transitioned from the educational platform to the non-profit sphere once she collaborated with Garfield Hawk III & Bethany Hawk, who are the founders of the Un-Included Club. Un-Included Club has been serving the central Texas area since 2009. The Hawks started the club to help youth stay out of trouble, but they wanted to do more, so they established the club as a nonprofit and brought Doree in as Executive Director.
Doree joined the organization to support the vision and mission of the Un-Included Club, which is to be un-included from illiteracy, childhood obesity, and giving up. The goal is to provide positive programming to help everyone remain un-included from habits and lifestyles that lead to un-wellness in ourselves, our families, and our community.
Doree holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and she saw a need in the community and fulfilled it by starting programs and clarifying missions that included literacy. Now Un-Included Club is a literacy trailblazer with their Kids R.E.A.D. program. After one year with Un-Included Club, Doree secured a USDA land grant and developed leadership with the high school students where they learn and teach the younger children as a peer mentorship program.
Doree strives to expose youth to various opportunities that they may not receive in the public school environment. On one occasion, she took the youth leadership of UN-Included Club to 6 different states in partnership with Mother Earth News Fair. For many of the youth, it was their first time traveling outside their city. The youth of the Un-Included Club has been featured in numerous newspaper articles including Temple Daily Telegram, KCEN-TV and Huffington Post. The youth leaders have traveled all over the country sharing the programs of the Un-Included Club, and the programs that Doree cultivates inspire the youth to make it cool to read, eat healthy and grow their own food.
Doree is an Honorary Rotarian for the Temple South Rotary Club, where she was selected to develop and lead the Excellence in Leadership Youth Program. She holds the position of honorary member of Phi Delta Upsilon for the UMHB Social Work Department, and she is a member of the National Association of Black Social Workers, Inc. She also sits on the board for the Cultural Activity Center of Temple, Texas, and she is a member of the Breakfast Lions Club of Temple, Texas.
Doree Collins is a master teacher who posses additional skills like: building relationships, helping kids and parents come together through learning and fun. She strives to create spaces to change the narrative to inspire self-love. She is passionate about empowering the youth and the Black community to honor their unique perspective to bring clarity to a lot of people that don’t understand the Black experience. Doree doesn’t just talk about it, she “is” about it, and “being” about it sets the table for Doree to inspire others to do the same.
