The future of work is being reshaped by rapid technological advances, evolving socio-economic dynamics, and growing demands for sustainability. While environmental and governance dimensions have gained widespread attention, the social dimension — particularly the sustainability of employability — remains underexplored.
This edited volume addresses this gap by adopting a holistic and interdisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from organization studies, human resource management, and work and organizational psychology. We aim to explore sustainable employability not only as an individual capacity but also as the outcome of organizational design, institutional framework, and societal priorities.
We invite contributions that examine the mutual interdependencies between micro-level factors (e.g., well-being, motivation, career adaptability), meso-level organizational practices (e.g., work design, participatory governance, leadership), and macro-level influences (e.g., regulation, labor market policies, socio-economic transitions). The book will provide a platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue, bridging theory and practice to offer actionable strategies for building a more inclusive and sustainable future of work.
We welcome conceptual, empirical, and practice-oriented contributions that engage with themes such as:
Concepts and frameworks for sustainable employability and sustainable work.
Organizational practices to foster workforce sustainability: job design, HRM systems, learning and development, participatory governance.
Well-being, health, and career sustainability from a work and organizational psychology perspective.
Institutional and regulatory frameworks: labor laws, social protections, industrial relations, trade unions, and their roles in promoting sustainable employability.
Comparative perspectives: SMEs vs. large organizations in implementing sustainable employability strategies.
Technological transformations (AI, automation, digital platforms) and their implications for employability.
The interplay between meaningful work, performance, and motivation.
Cross-sectoral, cross-national, and interdisciplinary comparative analyses.
Methodologies and tools to assess and promote sustainable employment practices.
Interdisciplinary and multi-authored chapters are strongly encouraged.
