GABY

Groups & Algebras in Bicocca for Young algebraists

The (two-year) cycle of conferences stems from the will to support young researchers in group theory, algebra and related topics. The convention is committed to provide an introduction to those topics of group theory and algebra that may not be readily available in any institution and that cover some of the most inviting research topics. Each conference in the series consists of three mini-courses complemented by lectures, posters, and discussion sessions. In addition, we give participants the opportunity to present their research and to expand their network of contacts with other researchers in the areas of interest to them.

New Trends around Profinite Groups 2022

The aim of the workshop is to bring together the major experts on profinite groups with number theorists working with profinite groups. These mixed meetings were initiated by O.H. Kegel and A. Lubotzky in the late ’80’s and provide an active interaction between group theorists and number theorists.

Date: 14 - 16 September 2022

Venue:  Villa Toeplitz (Varese - Italy)

Topics in Algebra

a conference in honor of Andrea Caranti and Carlo Maria Scoppola

Andrea Caranti and Carlo Maria Scoppola have played an important role in Italian Mathematics, with particular regard to numerous aspects of algebra such as Group Theory, Lie Algebras, Applications to Cryptography and Coding Theory, Number Theory and more.

On the occasion of their retirement, we organize a conference to celebrate their careers and their contributions to algebra.

Date: 1 - 2 September 2022

Venue:  Polo Ferrari, Via Sommarive 5, Povo (Trento - Italy)

Equity Diversity Inclusion Session

(a satellite event of GABY)

During this event we will reflect on bias affecting minorities in Mathematics (and in the academia in general), with a particular focus on Women in Mathematics. It is an opportunity to take part in interactive activities about preconceptions, to listen to Prof. Francesca Dalla Volta, who will tell us about her life as a mathematician, and to share experiences in a friendly environment.

Date and Venue: 14 June 2022, 17.00 - 20.00, University of Milano - Bicocca. REGISTRATION OPEN

MEETmeTONIGHT

MEETmeTONIGHT is the European researchers night in Lombardy and in Campania.

It is an yearly appointment that aims to share the scientific culture among citizens of all ages through a rich schedule of events: scientific experimets, scientific proofs, interactive labs, talks, meeting with the researchers, games, guided visits, theater plays and concerts.

New Trends around Profinite Groups

Profinite and related non-archimedean limit structures play a significant role not only within Group Theory, but in a range of areas, including Analysis, Geometry, Graph Theory, Model Theory and Number Theory. The aim of the conference is to bring together experts and young researchers in the field of profinite groups who will discuss recent developments and new trends in the subject.

Date: 13 - 17 September 2021

Venue:  Bella Vista Relax Hotel in Levico Terme (Trentino - Italy)
