WESTAC OVERVIEW
The 2nd World Engineering, Science and Technology Application Conference (WESTAC) is the inaugural international conference to be organized by the Faculty of Electronic Engineering Technology, UniMAP, in conjunction with the Global Trends in Engineering, Science & Technology Congress (GTEST) 2026. The aim is to provide a platform for professionals, researchers, academicians and industries to share and generate interest in cutting-edge applications, challenges and issues in the area of engineering, science and technology application.Â
The theme of the conference this year has been chosen in view of the current artificial intelligence (AI) and electronic engineering in the field of engineering, science and technology, entitled "Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Engineering: Advancing Humanity through Innovation".
A special keynote speaker will be invited to share his idea of the current trend in engineering, science and technology toward advancing humanity through innovation.
Potential papers are solicited in but are not limited to the following topics:
Electronics Systems and Devices
Signal and Image Processing
Internet of Things (IoTs) and Pervasive Computing
Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Deep Learning & Data Analytics)
Communication Engineering
All accepted and peer-reviewed papers can be published in Scopus-Indexed IOP Conference Proceedings or alternatively, in the MyCite-Indexed JERE Journal, according to author's choice.

Working and Living with AI: Moving Beyond Automation to True Collaboration
Dr Mohamad Sabri bin Sinal @ Zainal is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Deputy Director at UUM’s Research Management Center. He co-founded and leads the MindSphere AI research group, focusing on artificial intelligence, data science, human-centred computing, and Computational Instability Intelligence—an emerging approach that analyses instability in complex signals, systems, and human behaviour for early detection, prediction, and intelligent decision-making.
His research spans physiological signals, cardiac anomalies, human behaviour, emotional and stress variation, attention and fatigue, computer vision, machine learning, and explainable AI. He holds a PhD and MSc in Engineering from Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan, specializing in computational approaches to cardiac arrhythmia detection. His academic achievements include the UUM Chancellor’s Gold Medal, Shibaura Institute of Technology President’s Award, Functional Control System Award, and Best PhD Thesis Award. Guided by “Promoting Collaborative Exploration and Innovation,” he is committed to developing human-centred intelligent technologies and nurturing future researchers.
Applied AI: Transforming Education and Industrial Workflows beyond Automation
Mr. Jay Ooi completed a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Malaya. He is currently the Senior Manager of Research and Development at the General Electronics Measurement Solution (GEMS) business group within Keysight Technologies.
Jay began his career as a software engineer and has since taken on various roles, including system engineer, application engineer, project manager, program manager, and software manager, across both the R&D and Order Fulfilment departments. His diverse experience has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
As a forward-looking leader, Jay has been instrumental in pioneering multiple projects within Keysight Technologies. These projects include the development of software platforms, test automation tools, and AI productivity tools. Most recently, Jay has taken on the role of AI Program Lead for GEMS, where he is responsible for integrating AI culture into the business group.
Jay is passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent. He frequently participates in career talks for undergraduates and mentors engineers and managers, demonstrating his commitment to professional development and growth.

The Congress serves as an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, intellectual discussions, and networking across various areas of interest. It welcomes academics, researchers, scientists, engineers, interest groups, and industry experts from around the world. This year, WESTAC 2026 joins the congress.Â
