Research interests
My reaserch area is group theory. In my tesi di laurea I studied some problems concerning automorphisms of Cernikov groups while in my PhD thesis I investigated questions related to finitary groups, a class of groups that, at that time, was the subject of an intensive study, begun by Dick Phillips and John Hall. In that period I started a long standing collaboration with Felix Leinen. Besides working on finitary groups and Lie algebras, Felix and I have studied the group algebras of locally finite simple groups and, at the moment, we are investigating the relations between the nonsolvable length of finite groups and the length of the shortest law. In this project we have been joined by Francesco Fumagalli. Recently I started a collaboration with Gunnar Traustason on some topics concerning unipotent automorphisms. I'm particularly interested in asymptotic problems and I find intriguing the interplay between model theory and permutation group theory.
