Volunteers must be:
Current UCLA students (undergraduate or graduate) or past UniCamp campers
18 years or older by camp
Attendance is required at:
Weekly training meetings (2 hours/week)
Our week of camp (July 8th-July 14th)
Our volunteers each fundraise a minimum of $450 to cover the expenses associated with their stay at camp, although many of our volunteers raise much more! Most volunteers fundraise through social media campaigns, friends and family, local businesses, UniCamp alumni phone banking campaigns, and fundraising events throughout the school year. We rarely have volunteers who aren't able to fundraise the minimum amount and our leadership team provides extensive fundraising support and resources to help each one of our volunteers reach their goals. If fundraising is the only thing holding you back from applying, you should definitely still apply.
Absolutely. Our training program is designed for volunteers of all experience levels. By the end of training, every volunteer is fully prepared for their week of camp.
Our motto, "Sing Songs. Play Games. Change Lives." represents our belief in experiental learning. Through games, sports, songs, music, poetry, and many other mediums we create opporunities and experiences for our campers to grow. Although some of our programs may seem silly, don't be fooled–we're spinning up more than arts and crafts here. Every song and game has a purpose.
It's easy to list the practical, concrete reasons to join Unicamp, namely the leadership, planning, and social skills you'll gain. It helps you learn how to fundraise, relate to others better, and might teach you history you didn't know before. Being a camp counselor helps you in many areas of your life, including your resume.
But camp isn't just about those things. Some of the most important parts of camp are difficult to explain or describe. Camp can help you serve causes you're passionate about, find quality friends, and learn about yourself. Camp can give you a sense of community, a space to grow, and a new home. Camp can give you more than you thought it would. We hope you give it a try.
