The Afrikan proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child," is the guiding principle of The Village Session, where campers celebrate Afrikan American heritage, history, and culture in a safe space that is affirming, appreciative, and nurtures their personal assets. Village elders create an immersive environment for empowerment that strengthens campers' confidence and character on a foundation of culture, community and college-readiness. The Village Session provides access to resources for academic, social, and cultural excellence and develops leadership to advance the legacy of social justice.
The Village Session is a week long "Campference" (camp-conference) hosted at our very own Camp River Glen.
The American education system often neglects to educate students on Afrika's rich history, heritage, and culture.
