ArteRefúgio (ArtRefuge) Network is an initiative by the Research Group CINERE - Trajetórias sem Fronteiras and Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair UNICAMP/ACNUR focused on artistic dissemination in the context of migration and human displacement. The projects draws from the idea that displacement - as both a concept and in regards to concrete experiences of "being displaced" – defines and important framework from which we can rethink arts and culture in the contemporay world, especially in relation to politics.
The Network is based on the principle of art as a space of refuge, whether for the symbolic and affective reception of the anxieties, reflections and criticisms of people impacted by experiences of displacement, or thinking about the insertion of migrant and/or displaced visual artists in the beginning of their career in the Brasilian cultural economy.
We intend to promote those artists and contribute to their insertion in the Brazilian contemporary art scene, by connecting them with art institutions and producing cultural and educative actions. Those actions will take place in the next two years and will include an Art Exhibition and an Artistic Mentoring Cycle.
We accept applications from visual artists in any stage of their careers who have been impacted by experiences of displacement/migration – including foreigners who reside in Brazilian and Brazilians who migrated inside the country – and artists who address migration and displacement related topics in their practice
For displaced artists or those who address migration and displacement in their practice.
Up to R$800 will be available to help pay for transportation, assemblage and maintenance of artworks (the amount must be committed to contracting services, with CNPJ, upon presentation of an invoice).
For artist in the beginning of their career who have been impacted by experiences of displacement. Includes:
Production of editorial content and video-interviews;
Support to build a portfolio (online);
Workshops and talks with specialists (online);
