We aspire...
My goal is to use topics that are significant, applicable, relevant, and engaging to my students. I see every unit as a great opportunity to help our students understand that they are part of a larger community, that their actions matter, and they too can be leaders in making a difference.
Leader In Me is a philosophy based on the work of Dr. Stephen Covey’s book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” The goal of the Leader In Me is for students of all ages, even the youngest ones to understand that they all have the skills and essential qualities to become leaders.
We practice being the leaders by studying 7 essential habits . Here is the link to 7 habits for kids:

We use the Iowa Academic Standards to direct what we learn in class. These standards don't tell us how to teach but they inform us about what the desired outcomes should be. To make these more understandable for our students, you may see your children talking about I CAN statements. These are simplified versions of the Iowa Standards.
We are responsible for preparing our students to thrive in a future that will likely be dominated by rapidly evolving technology and for the jobs that may not be even yet invented!
