Lucy researched information about the roots. She wrote a script and practiced the delivery. She collaborated with Trinitee, who recorded the video and provided this information :
"Prairie roots planted along the farm streams are super cool, all natural filters! They are like a net, so the chemical water comes through, and bam! clean water goes and chemicals stay behind! Cool, right?"
Noah, Skye, and Sophie made a prairie root:
"This is our homemade prairie root, we made it with twine as the roots and with oil pastels and paper for the flowers. This root replica is the actual size of a real prairie root. It is seven feet tall! What we did is lay long pieces of twine on tape and then stapled the flowers on. We hope you like our homemade prairie root".
Jade, Manuel, and Keisha created their own sustainable community:
"In our town we have plenty of fruit trees. The trees give us a fresh air, fruits, and shade. Fruits are used to feed people and animals. We compost the leaves and uneaten parts of the fruits. We planted roots around our little pond. The long roots will help clean the water and feed the fish"
Did you know? Before European settlements, Iowa's land was covered with 30 million acres of prairies. Now, less than one-tenth of one percent remains.
