Creating an inclusive environment within your classroom begins with the routines and procedures that are set in place. It is important as a teacher to be clear in what your expectations and procedures are for you classroom and be consistent with them each day throughout the year and creating these procedures begin on day one. This page will help teachers to gain insight on the best practices of implementing and setting their routines and procedures.
Set minimum expectations for student behavior
Create a system that allows all student voices to be heard
Enforce each of your routines/procedures/expectations consistently for ALL students
Be aware of your student's specific needs in the classroom
Create a learning environment that is purposeful and fits ALL students in your class
Find incentives that you can provide for your students when they are meeting/surpassing the expectations
This video gives a little insight for teachers on what to look at within their classroom settings and allows them to do a little self-evaluation of their practices and see if they are inclusive for their students.
