The city has an important cultural tradition, ranging from handicrafts to theater, music and sports. Its main and most traditional football clubs are América Futebol Clube and Rio Preto Esporte Clube, founded, respectively, in January 1946 and April 1919.

With regard to tourism, one of its major attractions is the Parque da Represa Municipal (famous for its illustrious residents: capybaras).
