Sessions: Online Learning 101

Chuck Hodell has been involved the practice of instructional design for more than 30 years. He was responsible for the first online learning course in the DC area which utilized an email distribution model. Chuck was a beta tester of the LMS that is now known as Blackboard. He is the author of the upcoming textbook "Introduction to Instructional Systems Design; Theory and Practice" (2021) published by ATD, He is also the author of all four editions of “ISD From the Ground UP”, "SMEs From the Ground Up" and one of the authors of ASTD's Handbook (2nd edition). He is the Associate Director and faculty of the Master's program in Learning and Performance Improvement at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and serves on the faculty of the graduate program in Hospice and Palliative Care at the University of Maryland Baltimore. He is also past deputy provost of the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland. Before his academic career, Chuck was a professional musician, police officer and audio/video producer. He has a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) from UMBC, where he also received his Master's degree in Instructional Systems Development. His undergraduate degree is from Antioch University.
