  • Internet and Society (UNCG - CST 460)

Our uses of new information and communication technologies shift our ways of communicating, working, learning, playing, etc. Adapting to a scenario of rapid changes can be a challenging task. For this reason, this course invites students to critically analyze our digital society and act when they judge necessary. The semester begins with a historical overview of the core exigencies and ideas supporting the development of the internet. Then, it explores current social and economic issues, such as attention management, digital privacy, and the digital divide.

  • Civic Engagement in the Digital Age (UNCG - CST 460)

Our uses of new networked technologies transform traditional forms of civic engagement. Understanding this new scenario and being a responsible citizen requires reflection. For this reason, this course invites students to critically analyze how commercial imperatives, political interests, users' actions, and technological affordances shape public matters. The semester begins with an overview of the central subjects and institutions acting the networked public spheres. Then, it transitions to look at several forms of civic engagement, such as deliberation, protests, hacktivism, etc.

  • Communication Research Methods (UNCG - CST 399)

This course addresses both the theoretical and practical dimensions of conducting qualitative studies. Learners have the opportunity to develop a researcher's skills while becoming familiar with general theories, issues, and problems. Throughout the semester, they explore paradigmatic/conceptual matters and focus on firsthand experience with design, data collection, and data analysis.

  • Communication and Workplace Relations (UNCG - CST 341)

This course helps students to develop skills and methods of assessment that they can employ in professional and business settings. Students can train presentation/interview/teamwork skills throughout the semester. They can also explore and narrow down areas of interests to build the foundations of a professional identity.
