Allison is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics where she teaches mathematics and mathematics education courses for prospective and practicing teachers. She has almost 30 years of teaching experience, including over a decade as a secondary teacher. Allison’s research is focused on preparing prospective and practicing teachers to incorporate technology in instruction in mathematically meaningful ways. Outside of work she loves to hang out with her family and dogs, run, and generally be active outside. Lately she has taken comfort in watching a lot of the Great British Baking Show which has resulted in new attempts at ambitious baking (with very poor results).
Jen is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematical Sciences where she teaches mathematics and mathematics education courses for prospective and practicing teachers. She has almost 15 years of teaching experience, including seven years as a secondary teacher. Jen’s research is focused on preparing prospective and practicing teachers to incorporate technology in instruction in mathematically meaningful ways. Jen loves to crochet and makes super cute stuffed animals and the most beautiful tree skirts you've ever seen. Most importantly she has currently mastering the art of mommy-hood to Claire while working at the same time (she makes it look easy).
Nina is a doctoral candidate in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Mathematics Education. She has been in the field of education for over 15 years and began as a high school math teacher. Nina’s research interests include statistics education, critical statistical literacy, pre-service teacher statistical knowledge, and teaching and learning mathematics with technology. Nina loves spending time with her three rescue pups. She loves anything creative; her current obsession is making macrame plant hangers.
Kristen is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Mathematics Education. She is also a full time HS teacher at Charlotte Teachers Early College, she has partnered with Allison in UNCC’s Teaching HS Math with Technology course, and she is a Desmos Fellow. She loves live music, playing card and board games, crafting and daily walks with her dog Cali.
Michael Todd Edwards is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Todd is the co-editor of the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics and the North American GeoGebra Journal. He also serves as the co-director of the GeoGebra Institute of Ohio. Dr. Edwards' research interests focus on the teaching and learning of school mathematics with technology and writing as a vehicle to learn mathematics at all levels of instruction.
Seth is an Assistant Professor at Middle Tennessee State University. He develops resources to support teachers and students to productively engage with data across disciplines.
Katie Mawhinney is a Professor of Mathematics and the Assistant Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University. She is a member of the PTMT advisory board and is one of the leaders in the Appalachian Math Pathways initiative. Katie is working with colleagues to design and implement co-requisite and support courses for the the STEM pathway at App State.
Jeremy is a professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at MTSU. He has taught mathematics courses using technology for more than 20 years, and He loves learning new things with students and teachers while working as a mathematics professor and mathematics teacher educator.
Luke Walsh graduated from Indiana University in 2000 and then began teaching 8th grade mathematics in North Carolina. After five years in the public education system, he took a break to hike the Appalachian Trail. In 2007, Luke earned a masters in mathematics from Appalachian State University, and since then he has been a full-time mathematics instructor at Catawba Valley CC. Luke loves to collaborate with other teachers, to eat BBQ and drink craft beer, to create graphs, to spend time outdoors, and to go on family road trips.
Travis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston. He is a former high school mathematics teacher and has taught undergraduate and graduate mathematics and statistics courses. He also focuses his research on the teaching and learning of statistics through the investigation of sociopolitical issues.
Karen is a Professor of Mathematics Education and Interim Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at NC State. Her research investigates ways to use technology to support the teaching and learning of high school mathematics with a specific focus on geometry.
Christina is an Assistant Professor of Education at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Dr. Azmy earned her PhD in Mathematics and Statistics Education from NC State University. She is passionate about preparing the next generation of mathematics teachers to teach a subject many students have learned to fear. Her research is focused particularly on statistics education and developing teacher self-efficacy to teach statistics. She also has experience in applying best practices for online education and preparing prospective teachers to teach mathematics and statistics using technology.
Taylor is a recent graduate of the Learning and Teaching in STEM doctoral program at North Carolina State University, and is starting a new position as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Northwest Missouri State University. His scholarly interests include statistics education, technology in the mathematics classroom, and online teacher education. He has previously worked with prospective and practicing teachers to integrate technology into their instruction, as well as designed curricula to assist mathematics teacher educators in preparing teachers to teach statistics.
Lindsay is a doctoral student in the Mathematics and Statistics PhD program at MTSU, is a teacher at LaVergne High School, and teaches undergraduate mathematics courses at MTSU.
Samantha is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she majored in mathematics and minored in secondary mathematics education. She is a high school mathematics teacher who uses technology in her instruction regularly. Samantha has presented on her work with Desmos and GeoGebra at the Annual Conference of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Sam is a doctoral student in the Mathematics and Science PhD program and is a graduate research assistant on the PTMT-ESP project. She is a former high school mathematics teacher who used Desmos and GeoGebra extensively in her classroom.
Jennifer is studying mathematics with a minor in secondary mathematics education and is a Robert Noyce Scholar. She is from Union County, NC. As a high school math teacher she wants to help her future students realize and reach their greatest potential.
Gracy is a graduate of the Middle Tennessee State University where she majored in mathematics and minored in secondary mathematics education and was a Robert Noyce Scholar. She will start her first year as a high school mathematics teacher in the fall.
Demet is a doctoral student in the Mathematics and Statistics PhD program and is a graduate research assistant on the PTMT-ESP project while also teaching undergraduate mathematics courses at MTSU. Her research interests include improving student learning with technology as well as designing technology-based tasks to help prepare preservice teachers to effectively teach with technology.
Nikolas is graduate student currently finishing up work toward an M.S. in Network Technology with a concentration in Computer Network Management. He is from Salisbury, NC and works part time on the PTMT-ESP supporting the project's video editing needs.
Jessica is studying mathematics with a minor in secondary mathematics education and is a Robert Noyce Scholar. Jessica works for the Department of Housing and Resident Life at UNCC. As a future secondary mathematics teacher she hopes to positively impact her students' lives and show them that they all bring something of value to their math classrooms.
Ben is finishing up his master's degree in middle grades mathematics. He is a graduate research assistant on the PTMT-ESP project. He will be teaching 7th grade math at C.M. Eppes Middle School next year!
Hamid is a doctoral student in the STEM Education PhD program and is a graduate research assistant on multiple technology using mathematics and statistics education projects including PTMT-ESP, HI-RiSE, and DICE.
Bo is studying mathematics with a minor in secondary mathematics education. He is currently student teaching at the UNC Charlotte Early Engineering and Teaching College.
