Care Plan Assignment: 20 points
Your care plan assignment should be a powerpoint presentation that discusses one of the topics we discussed in our gastrointestinal genitourinary lessons. The care plan should begin at the very start of the patient's journey in the hospital and should highlight obtainable goals for the patient to achieve. The goals should not simply be “discharge home” and should be centered around promoting patient care. The purpose of the assignment is to develop a nursing care plan that would be similar to one that you will experience as a nurse in an inpatient setting.
Objectives:
Students will apply knowledge of pathophysiology of disease to develop nursing diagnosis.
Students will create detailed care plans based on patients needs and goals
The care plan should include:
Chief complaint
Patient History and a cultural consideration (i.e Jehovah witnesses may refuse blood products)
Assessment finding including both subjective and objective
3 Nursing Diagnosis (i.e impaired skin integrity)
4 Goals and outcomes (i.e patient will demonstrate behaviors/techniques to prevent skin breakdown)
Interventions (i.e reposition patient every two hours)
Evaluation of care (i.e patient's pressure sore has decreased in size)
One interactive component (i.e video, Kahoot, NCLEX style questions, etc)
References in APA (please have at least two references other than the powerpoint)
Recommendation:
To aid in flow it is beneficial to have each component listed above as one slide and in the order listed above.
Be creative
Utilize images and powerpoint themes
Resources:
You may use your textbook and power points for class or scientific articles from the library. Below are good resources
INSTRUCTOR: Taylor Kindler
DATE: 3/3/2024
COURSE TITLE: Patient Center Care
LESSON TITLE: The gastrointestinal genitourinary system (Gi/GU)
INSTRUCTIONAL GOAL (overall outcome that students should be able to demonstrate upon completion of the entire unit) - 5 points
Upon completion students will be able to understand the disorders of the Gi/GU system. Students will be able to demonstrate an understand of nursing considerations when caring for patients dealing with the Gi/GU disorders. Students will successfully make nursing care plans with detailed nursing diagnosis and outcomes. Students will be able to use information learned in post grad career.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (use an action verb in a description of a measurable outcome) –25 points. At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to: Don’t forget to review Bloom’s Objective verbs. There should be various levels addressed.
1. Evaluate GI/GU symptoms and anticipate patient needs.
2. Create detail-oriented care plans for patient’s with GI/GU issues.
3. Apply topics to everyday nursing care.
4. Understand the pathophysiology of GI/GU and the effects it has on the body.
5. Analyze cultural effects on nursing care for those with Gi/GU disorders.
STUDENT READINESS/PRE-REQUISITES (how will you evaluate)– 5 points
Student readiness is evaluated on the results of the previous unit’s test scores.
LESSON CONTENT (what is to be taught & how you will teach it.) – 30 points
Nursing care centered around GI/GU will be taught using a power point. The lesson will go over common signs and symptoms of GI/GU on disorders along with nursing interventions and nursing care considerations. Examples of topic discussed are topics irritable bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, and Urinary tract. There will be a brief overview of pharmacological information as students will go over medications in their pharmacology class. Throughout the power point there will be NCLEX styles questions to review what is being taught and prepare students for the NCLEX. Students will then be given a care plan assignment.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES (See general rule of thumb below.) – 20 points
1.Focusing event (something to get the students' attention)
a. The students will be instructed to do the assigned reading before class. When the students arrive, they will be instructed to get into small groups and come up with three words that describe what they read in the assigned reading. This activity should only take the first ten minutes of class.
2.Teaching procedures (methods you will use)
a. Lectured based learning with a PowerPoint and flipped classroom styles as students are required to do the reading before the lecture lesson. There will be critical thinking styled NCLEX questions.
3.Formative check (progress checks throughout the lesson)
a. Throughout the lesson students will used their registered clickers to answer questions.
4.Student Participation (how you will get the students to participate)
a. Students will use their class clickers to answer NCLEX style questions throughout the power point.
5.Closure (how you will end the lesson)
a. Class will end with the presentation of the care plan assignment and students may begin working on it.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES (how you will measure outcomes to determine if the material has been learned; be specific, give examples) – 10 points
To evaluate student comprehension, students will be tasked with choosing a topic we discussed in the lesson and create a scenario and care plan for the patient. There then will then be a short quiz at the next class period to test comprehension.
MATERIALS AND AIDS (what you will need in order to teach this lesson) – 5 points
Power point, clicker device, and textbook
