Juan Mendoza-Collazos is Associate Professor at the National University of Colombia. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Semiotics from Lund University (Sweden). He currently investigates the role of artefacts in relation to agency and the notion of collective agency of vulnerable communities in social innovation processes. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and teaches courses in design semiotics (postgraduate) and sustainable mobility (undergraduate).

Mendoza-Collazos is vice president of the International Association of Visual Semiotics (IASV). Member of the scientific committee of the John Deely International Seminar on Semiotics. Member of the Design Research Society, and of the Charles S. Peirce Society.
He has led highly complex design projects managing each phase of the design process.
