DAY-1 VCLEP 2022

VCLEP 2022 started with a song Universiti Malaysia Terengganu Cita Warisan and a welcoming speech from Prof. Dr. Asyraf Haji Abd. Rahman, Dean of Pusat Pendidikan Asas dan Lanjutan (PPAL), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to all of the participants that participate in VCLEP 2022.

Introduction of UMT

Dr. Isma Rosila from PPAL, UMT presented an introduction to UMT to the participants. By participating in UMT virtual tours, the participant from a country other than their own will be able to get a closer look at the courses and the environment of UMT as they have a chance to experience a world class campus.

SLOT 1: To know is to love Malaysia

In this slot, participants were introduced to Malaysia and gained an understanding of the country. Malaysia is shown on the world map so they know where it is located. Then they were introduced to the beautiful of Malaysia where they learn about the four season every year and the flora and fauna in Malaysia. They also get to know this multiracial country where Malaysia has a lot of racial and how we were able to live in peace even with different culture and religion.

SLOT 2: Insight to Malaysian Culture

The second slot was presented by Dr. Isma Rosila Ismail where the participants get to learn about Malaysian culture.

As part of this slot, Dr. Isma gave a summary of Malaysian culture and introduced a language used in Malaysia, Manglish (Malay + English). In Malaysia, Manglish is the combination of English and Malaysian languages, accents and styles. A lot of Malaysians use it as a communication tool. For participants from other countries, it was a great new language to learn . In addition to that, Dr. Isma also introduced them to the culture of Terengganu, where UMT is located. Dr. Isma explained to them the dialect used in Terengganu, their lifestyle, architecture, and more in this section of the presentation. Hence, the participants gain a lot of knowledge of Malaysia and also Terengganu, one of the state in Malaysia.

SLOT 3: Let's Learn Malay Language

For this slot, VCLEP 2022 have invited Dr. Maulana Al-Fin from International Islamic University Malaysia to teach the participants about Malay language.

This program gives participants the opportunity to learn Malaysia's official and national language, Malay. During the presentation, Dr. Maulana Al-Fin provided a brief overview of the history of the Malay language. Moreover, Dr. Maulana Al-Fin showed the participants how the alphabet sounds in Malay as well as how to introduce themselves and how to greet someone in Malay. The participants had the opportunity to also learn how to introduce themselves and a basic greeting in Malay as well. Surely, they can used this knowledge when they got a chance to visit Malaysia. At the end of the session, they have fun practising the language that they have learn with Dr. Maulana Al-Fin. A big thanks to Dr. Maulana Al-Fin for teaching our participants of Malay language.

SLOT 4: Intro to Malaysia Biodiversity

Dr. Maizah Mohd Abdullah from Faculty of Science and Marine Environment (FSSM) of UMT was the last presenter for Day-1 with an intoduction to Malaysia Biodiversity.

The purpose of this slot was to present to the participants information about biodiversity and habitat in the ocean as it is part of the UMT slogan, Ocean of Discoveries, for Global Sustainability, and this was an exciting opportunity to share what UMT has discovered in the ocean with participants from another country. During the presentation, Dr. Maizah discussed a number of topics about oceans and why habitats are so important to the well-being of humans and the ocean. As a result of the sharing from Dr. Maizah, the participants were able to gain a deeper understanding about human and oceans and also be able to experience the beauty of Malaysia's ocean virtually through the sharing.

As a result of each slot, the participants were divided into groups and had a quick session with their Buddies. With the Buddies, the participants were given the opportunity to express their opinions and to have an exchange of cultural experiences. At the end of the program, they will present their culture to the participants of their hometown in order to show their culture to the other participants
