My academic background is interdisciplinary and focuses on hand gestures and their relationship to language in typical and atypical populations. My Ph.D. is in cognitive psychology, I completed postdoctoral fellowships in psychiatry, and my last position was in educational psychology. I came to Mizzou as part of the MizzouForward initiative, which supports faculty conducting research addressing pressing challenges. I’m from Newark, Delaware, and I enjoy traveling, cycling, cooking, and spending time with my cats, Oreo and Cookie.Â
I joined the NERD lab in Fall 2024 as a Ph.D. student in Interdisciplinary Neuroscience. I received a Master of Health Sciences in Speech-Language Pathology at Mizzou, building on a B.A. in Linguistics, Classical Greek, and English. My interests span all of these disciplines, to some degree, but are highly-motivated by a desire to know more about the neural mechanisms behind phonological, morphological, and syntactic processing across languages, especially where these domains intersect. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, painting, spending time outdoors, and taking care of my dog (Hazel), and bearded dragon (Tempo).Â
I joined the NERD Lab in Fall 2024 as the lab manager. I graduated from Pomona College in 2022 with a degree in Linguistics. At Pomona, I also studied Asian American Studies, Art and the Humanities. In between completing my undergraduate training and joining the NERD Lab, I served with AmeriCorps In Tulsa, Oklahoma in a high-need public high school where I mentored, tutored, and taught multicultural and first-generation low-income students like myself. I’m originally from Northwest Arkansas and a QuestBridge Scholar who loves to serve their communities through mentorship and community building. Outside of the lab, I’m an artist specializing in fibers (specifically denim) and documentation/archival work! I volunteer with college access programs like QuestBridge and Posse to mentor and develop the next upcoming generation of scholars and leaders.

We are the NERD Lab's mascots. Our research examines the relationship between feline gesture and speech. The goal of our research is to understand how the feline gesture-speech relationship changes between kittenhood and adulthood and how it can enhance communication between cats and humans. In our free time, we enjoy sleeping, chewing on houseplants, exploring our new house, and hiding in boxes.
