About me

Even though I have worked in the industry for many years, I am academician at heart. I love all things academic, research, teaching and academic service. Consequently, I have ended up splitting time between "teaching and research" and working in the trenches. This way I have been able to enrich my teaching with examples from the industry and use my theoretical knowledge from the academia to improve the way I work in the field jobs.

While in the industry I have been fortunate to be entrusted with a wide variety of responsibilities. In the telecommunications and internet industry, with the planning, installation, operations and maintenance of modern digital switches, fiber optic and copper technologies. One of the most challenging assignments was to plan and deploy high speed broadband transport and access networks in cities and rural areas. Today, I am proud to be part of the UM System Broadband Initiative, which aims to bring broadband to everyone in the State of Missouri and expand opportunities for digital learning, healthcare, and e-business development.

Research Interests

In the last couple of years, my research has been on the intersection of large distributed networks, management of services on multi-clouds, security of applications on edge and core clouds, applying artificial intelligence (deep and machine learning) to cybersecurity solutions in the virtual world, AI based fault detection and localization in telecommunication networks, and the security of 5G networks. I firmly believe in research that encourages community vitality and the wellbeing of its people. For example, cybersecurity of next generation critical infrastructure services like healthcare, banking, and public utilities.
