I selected this video as one of my writing artefacts for several reasons. The video is very entertaining but most importantly I can relate to the message at a personal level since the girl's experience is similar to mine as a native who is not fluent in her native language. On top of that, I think that the girl is in fact a very talented speaker and her English is so good, so she should use this as an opportunity to record videos and teach Kadazandusun to other speakers. People will definitely be attracted to watch her videos as she is really funny and pretty. I'm inspired to make videos just like her.
I chose this artefact because it relates strongly to my roots. This is a photo of the elders in my village. I have difficulty communicating with my elders because I'm not very fluent in Kadazandusun language. I only know a few general terms. I hope to one day be able to converse with them fluently, and be able to spread word about the beauty of my people's culture. While searching for materials for my writing, I came across many photos like this one which reflects the uniqueness of my people's culture.
Reading this article really inspired me. Rita Lasimbang has made so many contributions to promote our culture and she was even the founder of KLF. Prior to reading this I was unaware that so many things have been done to promote my language. I can now spread the word about KLF and the activities done to promote the language such as translation services. And now that I am aware that children's books have been produced in Kadazandusun, I've made up my mind to go the bookstore to purchase a few to support these efforts. The storybooks should be interesting for me to read to my younger siblings and cousins.
