Wednesday May 20, 10 am: Tour UMN's Raptor Center
In person at 1920 Fitch Ave, St Paul
The Raptor Center's mission is to ensure the health of raptors and the world we share. Their specialized hospital admits around 1,000 birds of prey each year; their goal is to rehabilitate and release them back to the wild. They also train future generations of veterinarians and wildlife rehabilitators, conduct ground-breaking research on raptors and the environment, and educate and inspire thousands of people each year through their unique educational programming.
Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of the UMN's Raptor Center. We will begin our time together with a sit-down presentation by Raptor Center staff, then will tour the center itself and have a chance to see raptors up close. Space is limited. Please sign up here to reserve your spot. Cost is $10/person. Payment can be made by cash or Venmo the day of.
Tuesday June 9, 7 to 8:30 pm (approx) Phenology Walk at Big Willow Park Led by WMC member Craig Nelson
In person at Big Willow Park Nature Trails, in Minnetonka
Craig lives just outside the park and knows it well! Join him as he guides us on Big Willow's two miles of nature trails, which are flat and often paved, with unpaved, uneven and narrow footpaths leading from the paved areas. Plan to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, bring binoculars and water, and dress for the weather. This is a great opportunity to enjoy Minnesota's long summer evenings with fellow nature lovers!
We will meet in the parking lot directly across from Applewood Pointe condominiums (Big Willow Park Nature Trails) in Minnetonka. If that lot is full you can park at Roy Guilliams Park just east of Applewood Pointe (see map here). Restrooms are available east of the wetland at the baseball fields.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Friends and family are welcome! (right click link to copy email address and paste into your email to send)
