Traditional Karate-Do Academy at UMN is a karate-do club on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota continuing the teaching of Master Hidetaka Nishiyama and Sensei Robert Fusaro. Sensei R. Fusaro started teaching karate-do on campus since 1967. The club was created to continue his teaching and to provide students at the University of Minnesota a resource to learn and train in traditional karate-do from sensei Trung Le, a godan (5th degree black belt) recognized by the American Amateur Karate Federation (AAKF).
Our mission is dedicated to provide a safe, nurturing, and affordable karate-do community for all students to develop self confidence, self discipline, improve mind and body connection in the study of traditional karate-do based on scientific principles developed by Master Hidetaka Nishiyama.
The club is a member of the AAKF. The AAKF is a national governing organization representing traditional karate-do in the US founded by Master Hidetaka Nishiyama since 1979. The AAKF represents all club members in the World Traditional Karate-do Federation (WTKF). All students' rank promotions are recognized by the AAKF and the WTKF.
