Ergonomics Program

University Health & Safety

Welcome to the University of Minnesota Ergonomics Program!

Ergonomics is the art and science of designing and modifying the workplace so that it fits each individual worker. Highly forceful or repetitive motions, awkward postures, and poor body mechanics can contribute to discomfort, soreness, unhappiness at work, and at worst, chronic or disabling injuries.

Common tasks that can benefit from ergonomic assistance are lifting of any weight, bench-top and microscope work in the laboratory, typing, and general office work where you sit for most of your work day.

Getting a workstation evaluation or learning more about good ergonomic practices can greatly reduce your chance of injury, help you work more productively, and help make you happier and more comfortable at work.
