Writing with Equity in Mind:

What is Translanguaging and what does it mean for student writing

Thursday, December 1, 2022

9:00 am–10:00 am

Online discussion with readings

Registration closed.

This discussion with readings continues our conversation on language difference in student writing. Because language difference is always a feature of language use, how can we move toward a descriptive and appreciative relationship to it and away from normative expectations of a prestige style. Participants are encouraged to read two articles: “Translanguaging in the Classroom: Emerging issues in research and pedagogy” and “Codemeshing in Academic Writing: Identifying teachable strategies of translanguaging.” Participants do not need to attend the prior Writing with Equity in Mind discussions to participate.

Facilitator: Dan Emery (Assistant Director, Writing Across the Curriculum)
Audience: Faculty, instructors, and graduate students
Format: Online via Zoom (Zoom link will be provided upon registration)
