Use the 25 Live Calendar to view room availability in Ferguson Hall
Refer to the Ferguson Hall Room Descriptions Guide to select the room you wish to reserve.
Fill out an online Ferguson Reservation Request Form (Now active) . If the reservation is a same-day reservation or a recurring reservation, you may email music@umn.edu instead.
Read the Room Reservation Policies before making your reservation.
Requests are processed Monday – Friday (normally between 9am and 3pm). No requests are processed on the weekends.
Plan your reservations as far in advance as possible. There are a large volume of requests, so last-minute requests might not be processed in time for your reservation, especially if you are requesting a time before noon on the next work day (Mondays-Fridays).
Problems accessing the request form? Email music@umn.edu
If you have an event open to the public, please utilize the Communications Event and Design Request Form.
At the time of your reservation, go to the monitor station on the lower level of Ferguson Hall (room 44) to get a key. The person who made the reservation must be the one to pick up the key, and that person must be present while the room is in use.

The hall is outfitted with the 1:Button Studio, an easy-to-use HD video recording and live streaming system equipped with professional video and sound equipment. It is designed for recital hall users to record high-quality video and audio without any knowledge of cameras or recording equipment, and may be used to capture any performance or rehearsal. More information and detailed instructions can be found in the Ultan Recital Hall User Guide.
The School of Music does not provide recording technicians for recitals or rehearsals, and live streaming is only available for curricular recitals and University events. The 1:Button system is intended to be as reliable as possible, but if you absolutely can’t risk losing any moment of your event, you should plan for a backup camera or audio recorder of your own. 24/7 support is not available, though we will respond to issues as soon as possible.
The user of the 1:Button Studio is responsible for compliance with all laws regarding the use, performance, recording, and distribution of copyright-protected works. All live-stream broadcasts approved by the School of Music are presumed to be for the sole purpose of non-profit educational and research activities, as permitted by the Fair Use provision of United States copyright law.
Current University of Minnesota School of Music Music-Majors are permitted to create Personal Use Reservations in Lloyd Ultan Recital Hall.
Hourly student rentals are no longer available.
Personal Use Reservations are exclusively available for currently active music majors.
Music minors, non-music majors, and students not currently enrolled in music courses are ineligible. Students who have completed their coursework but have not graduated are ineligible.
There is no fee for Personal Use Reservations.
Each student is limited to one 90-minute (maximum) Personal Use Reservation per semester. This reservation may not be divided into smaller increments (for example, 60 minutes one day and 30 minutes another). For the purposes of this policy, each “semester” is defined as:
Fall: First day of Fall classes through the last day of winter break
Spring: First day of Spring classes through the last day of Spring finals week.
Summer: First day after Spring finals through the day before Fall semester
Personal Use Reservations may only be created a maximum of three weeks in advance.
Personal Use Reservations are not permitted during periods of peak recital demand: the three weeks prior to the first day of finals through the last day of finals.
Personal Use Reservations may be requested in addition to rehearal time allocated for those giving degree recitals.
The School of Music may reschedule Personal Use Reservations if exigent circumstances arise.
Students may use Personal Use Reservations for private activities like group or solo rehearsals, recording, and other academic or musical purposes related to their studies at the University.
Personal Use Reservations may not be used for public performances, graded recitals, or events. Students wishing to hold a public recital must use the recital scheduling process.
Personal Use Reservations will not be live-streamed or publicized by the School of Music.
Students must adhere to the established guidelines for space use, including resetting the room, respecting instruments and equipment, and adhering to reservation times (especially regarding conflicts with scheduled recitals and other activities).
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a loss of Personal Use Reservation privileges.
Students may use the Recital Hall booking form and select “Personal Use Reservation:”
Faculty and staff members may contact Sari Baker at mille149@umn.edu for reservations and availability.
