What is Slido?

Slido is an easy-to-use Q&A, polling, quizzes and word cloud platform for in-person, online or hybrid meetings, events, classes and webinars. Set up a Slido event in less than a minute. All the participants need to join is a simple event code or link. Slido integrates well with PowerPoint. Website: sli.do.

Karen's note: Slido is one of the easiest polling tools I've used. The Q&A allows participants to upvote questions to presenters which can be really nice with a large group.

Taylor's note: Poll Everywhere is very similar to slido and will report live polling for participants. https://www.polleverywhere.com/

What is Kahoot?

Kahoot is a quiz-based learning platform that works for hybrid learning, webinars and events by making learning fun and engaging. At its most basic, Kahoot! offers a question and then optional multiple choice answers. The points the player gets are calculated on up to how much can the player get and how long it takes the player to answer. The sooner the player answers, the more points they get if the player answers correctly. Points then show up on the leaderboard after each question. Its free version allows up to 10 participants. Website: kahoot.com

Karen's note: Kahoot is visually nicer than some other polling tools. This is a great option when working with youth.

Name that tune!

Playing a game like "Name that tune" is an easy soft opener or energizer. In Zoom, go to "Share Screen" > "Advanced" > "Music or Computer Sound Only".

On Microsoft Teams: Select Share Content, then turn on Include Computer Sound

What is Miro?

Miro is a collaborative virtual whiteboard for cross-functional teams. Use Miro to collaborate, brainstorm, and visualize ideas. Free to .edu accounts. Also, participants must have an account or sign up to use so this tool might not be useful for quick interactions with a new group.

Karen's note: Similar tools that I've used and like include Mural.com and Invision. Jamboard is also a very simple tool to use for activities but has some limitations depending on your needs. Comparison chart of Jamboard, Mural and Miro (from Princeton University)

What is Jamboard?

Jamboard is another collaborative virtual whiteboard for cross-functional teams. Useful for collaboration, brainstorming, with the potential for yes/no polling options

Taylor's note: A little more clunky than Miro. No templates and limited customization, but free with a google account!

What is Google Forms?

Google Forms allows you to create free polls and quizzes for your audience. You can use it during a presentation to poll the audience, or quiz them and show them the results in real time. It is also a great tool for evaluation after a presentation or conference to gauge participant opinions or adoption of practices as a result of your presentation

Anne's note: I find Google Forms to be an easy-to-use tool that has enough functionality for simple forms and polls. It can be limiting as far as types of questions, but is still a great option!

Taylor's note: A good alternative for those without a google account is Survey Monkey. You can create multiple choice questions, checkbox, ranking questions, and more! surveymonkey.com
