Editor in Chief - Matthew Freeman
Matthew is currently a Senior at the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences majoring in Microbiology. Being the Editor in Chief of MURAJ, he oversees all operations of the journal from recruitment and editing to the final publication. He works directly with 4 other great individuals on the MURAJ Editorial board to accomplish all of this. He is extremely excited for where MURAJ is going as this is our first year and publication. He believes we will serve as a great outlet and representation of undergraduate research being done at our University.
Managing Editor - Senuri Rauf
Senuri is a senior in the College of Liberal Arts majoring in Child Psychology and minoring in Spanish! As a senior, her post-graduation plans include traveling abroad for volunteer work and applying to medical school. She is currently an undergraduate research assistant for the Thomas Lab in the Institute of Child Development, a position she has held since freshman year. The lab focuses on cognitive development and neuroimaging techniques, both of which she will focus on as part of her senior honors thesis! She thinks it has been an amazing opportunity to work with MURAJ as she fully supports it's purpose of publishing research by students for students
Treasurer - Maddison McFarland
Maddison is a senior physiology major at the University of Minnesota. She is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Soraya Beiraghi's lab studying the genetic causes of familial non-syndromic cleft lip and palate. Maddison's responsibilities as Treasurer for MURAJ include managing the journal's expenses, working with UROP and the UMN Library system to determine the journal's funding, and take minutes at all MURAJ meetings. She is excited to be a part of promoting scientific research amongst her peers, and to be involved in the amazing undergraduate community at the University of Minnesota.
Outreach Director - Miranda VanPilsum-Johnson
Miranda is a Junior at the University of Minnesota studying Biomedical Engineering. Her passion for the research community stems from the three years she has spent as an undergraduate researcher in a Cardiovascular Tissue-Engineering Laboratory on campus. As the Outreach Director for MURAJ, Miranda's responsibilities include promotion of the journal to the research community, as well as communications with reviewers and student researchers as the peer review process makes way
Media Editor - Liz MacDonald
Liz is a senior microbiology major at the University of Minnesota. She is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Cara Santelli's lab working with selenium-reducing microbes. Liz's responsibilities as Media Editor for MURAJ include designing the journal layout, designing promotional graphics, and maintaining MURAJ's website. As someone who is passionate about science communication, Liz is excited to be part of publishing undergraduate research at the University of Minnesota.
Advisor - Vicky Munro
Vicky is the Coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research and has worked in the field of undergraduate research since 1986. she has a PhD in American Studies, and her own research centers on hate crime (she published a book three years ago). She serves as an advisor/mentor for MURAJ with a goal to support the student board in creating, establishing and maintaining a new undergraduate research journal at the University of Minnesota.
