The Microbiology Club exists for the primary function of introducing microbiology students to each other, to faculty, and to the variety of resources available at the University of Minnesota.
We have monthly meetings with a variety of speakers from a variety of backgrounds. We try to introduce group members to research being done on campus in the microbiology field as well as to careers in academia, the government, and the private sector, and dispense information on post-graduation options. We also are scheduling volunteer and social activities on and around campus, scheduling site visits to local microbiologist employers, and we encourage attending seminars and getting otherwise involved and connected.
Our club encourages microbiology students to connect, facilitating study groups as well as connecting students to faculty, which contributes to higher class performance as well as student involvement in research. Our activities are intended to increase student visibility in microbiology on campus, generating well-informed members more aware of their field beyond their classes and increasing their sense of university pride and identity.
