CHANGES IN STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AND PERSONAL ISSUES
According to the College Student Health/COVID-19 Survey, University of Minnesota students reported having increased challenges with stress, sleep, mental health, excessive computer use, and concerns for family and friends in Spring 2020 vs. 2018.
The pandemic affected students' mental health issues and concerns for family members or friends the most. Students reported a 13% increase in mental health issues and a 17% increase in concerns for family members or friends.
STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AND PERSONAL ISSUES IMPACT ON ACADEMICS
Along with personal challenges, students face academic challenges during the pandemic. Students mental health and personal issues impacted their academic performance.
Students reported an 18% increase in excessive computer and internet use due to classes moving to online learning, and reports of homelessness increased by 26%.
With increases in personal and academic challenges, University of Minnesota students were under pressure. Although united in numbers, no two student stories are quite the same.
