I am an upcoming second year MPH student studying maternal and child health at my alma mater, UMN Twin Cities, where I received my BA in biology, society, and environment in 2024. My education in biological and cultural sciences as well as my background in patient care motivates me to break down systemic inequities in the healthcare system. In my role as president of MCHSIG, I organize our executive committee meetings, oversee event planning, and consider opportunities for advancing our student group as well as to promote the maternal and child health academic program. My name is Erika Lattimore. I am an upcoming second-year MPH student in the Maternal and Child Health Program here at the University of Minnesota. I am a distant learner, currently residing in North Carolina. I am passionate about using public health to advance equity in Black maternal and mental health and to support this underserved and underrepresented community. As a black woman in public health, this work is very important and personal to me, and I plan to help uplift those impacted by these disparities. Hi everyone, I am an upcoming second-year MPH student studying Maternal and Child Health, with a minor in Sexual Health. I earned my undergraduate degree in sociology and global health from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. I serve on the MCHSIG Executive Committee, where I help plan events, support communications, and connect students across the MCH community. I also work as a Research Assistant with the Justice-Involved Women and Children Collaborative (JIWCC), where I contribute to newsletters, policy briefs, and research.
