About
The Math Alliance Student Chapter at the University of Minnesota (UMN) is committed to fostering a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for undergraduate student interested in becoming graduate students and graduate students in the Mathematical Sciences. This dedication is aimed at those who are recognized as Math Alliance Scholars or have engaged in Math Alliance initiatives, such as the Facilitated Graduate Applications Process (F-GAP) and the Field of Dreams conference. Our efforts are made possible through funding from the Math Alliance and generous support from the University of Minnesota's Mathematics Graduate Department.
The Math Alliance's focus is on supporting individuals who belong to one or more of the following categories*:
undergraduates or students in terminal Master's programs from ethnic groups, families, or regions with limited exposure to doctoral studies in mathematical or statistical sciences
U.S. citizens or permanent residents from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds in these fields, including African American, Latino/a – Hispanic, American Indian – Native American, Alaskan Native, or Pacific Islander
and students, who may not identify as part of a minority group but are U.S. citizens or permanent residents from backgrounds with minimal doctoral studies experience in these sciences.
*Please note, while Math Alliance participation typically requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, exceptions can be considered for DACA students and some other undocumented student categories.
