Jason Chan is a Professor of Information & Decision Sciences at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. His research focuses on generating business and policy insights from emerging digital phenomena and their societal implications. His work spans a broad range of domains, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, crime, financial well-being, education, and labor economics. To address these topics, he employs a variety of quantitative methodologies, including econometric modeling, experimental methods, and computational techniques to uncover meaningful relationships within complex datasets.
Dr. Chan's research has been published in leading academic journals, including Information Systems Research, Management Science, and MIS Quarterly. His work has been featured by prominent media outlets such as The Economist, The Washington Post, The Economic Times, NBC News, Newsweek, and Forbes, and has informed public policy discussions, including citations in the Council of Economic Advisers' Economic Report of the President.
His scholarly contributions have received numerous recognitions. He received the Management Science Best Paper Award in 2020, the AIS Best Published Paper Award in 2014, the MIS Quarterly Best Paper Award in 2014, and the Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award in 2021. He was also the recipient of the 2015 Nunamaker-Chen Dissertation Award from the INFORMS Information Systems Society.
Dr. Chan serves as an Associate Editor for both Management Science and Information Systems Research, where he has received Best Associate Editor Awards from both journals. He has also served as Senior Editor for Special Issue at Journal of MIS and Track Chair for the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). in both 2016 and 2017. In recognition of his service to the academic community, he has received the Distinguished Service Award from Management Science twice, Best Reviewer Awards from Information Systems Research and MIS Quarterly, and two Best Associate Editor Awards at ICIS. He further served the broader information systems community as Vice President of the INFORMS Information Systems Society from 2019 to 2023. In 2018, Poets & Quants named him one of the Top 40 Business School Professors Under 40 Worldwide.
