During the in-person portion of hydrocamp, we stay at the beautiful Itasca Biological Station & Laboratories (IBSL), a University of Minnesota field station dedicated to research and education focused on how ecosystems function. IBSL fosters a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its preservation for future generations. The station is located on the shores of Lake Itasca, one of the headwaters of the Mississippi River.
IBSL provides delicious meals and free access to bikes, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Snacks—such as pastries, popcorn, chocolate milk, tea, and other beverages—will be available throughout the day. Students will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Itasca State Park— the second-oldest state park in the U.S.
Our hydrocamp fieldsite is located near Akeley, Minnesota. With multiple pumping wells and dozens of monitoring wells, we are able to conduct pumping tests in both the surficial and confined aquifers and monitor pumping responses with high spatial resolution.
