HSEC Technology Support Subcommittee

Mission Statement

The Health Sciences Education Center (HSEC) Technology Support Subcommittee will continue the work of the formal HSEC committees in order to implement best technology practices across Health Sciences’ shared learning spaces. This committee meets monthly in preparation for HSEC’s official opening, Fall 2020. After that, a standing Health Sciences Learning Space Technology Advisory Board would then guide this area.

Deliverables

Health Sciences’ support for academic learning spaces and technology is distributed throughout the Health Sciences colleges and schools. This work is supplemented by connecting departments which include HS Classroom Services (HSCS), HS Technology (HST) and UM Libraries.

The following deliverables will improve the technology experience and are derived from various HSEC committee final reports (link these here).

  • HSEC Tech Support Subcommittee FINAL Report - March 2020
  • Recommend a Support Model - DONE 7/29
  • Seek the most efficient means of supporting HSEC and legacy HS learning spaces
  • Consider the increase in services, demand for new spaces, technologies, event support
  • Establish a Menu of Services for Operations Subcommittee to determine which services should be Fee Based vs. Common Good and estimate staffing needs
  • Form Task Force on Computerized Testing -
  • Membership to represent all Health Sciences groups and relevant central groups
  • Form Task Force on Departmental Technology Requirements, Commonalities, and Use Cases
  • Understand and Leverage Centralized Tools and Resources, how they relate to classroom spaces, including accessibility accommodations and recommendations
  • Coordinate with the Office of Information Technology, Office of Classroom Management, other central offices as needed.
    • Bi-weekly meetings being held between OIT, OMS, HSCS and HST
  • How best to prepare and train Health Science faculty and staff to be effective in these spaces on day 1.
  • Provide recommendations around Health Sciences Learning Spaces Communications. Policies, Tour information, Orientations and training, learning new technologies, how digital signage will be managed, help manage expectations for Active Learning Classrooms
